Pained by son Anil’s decision to join BJP: Veteran Congress leader AK Antony
Anil K Antony joined the BJP, two months after he resigned from his positions in the Congress following a controversy over his comments on a BBC documentary on Gujarat riots.

Hours after his son Anil joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), veteran Congress leader and former defence minister AK Antony Thursday said he was pained by his son’s decision.
Addressing reporters, a teary-eyed Antony said he would stand with the Congress till his last breath and recalled the days of the Congress rule under former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. “The decision is really painful. But till death, I will be a Congressman.”
Targeting the BJP, the Congress leader said efforts were being made to destroy the grand old party in the state.
“I am 82 years old and I do not have much of a political career ahead of me… My life is in its last lap. I don’t know how I would live. After he (Anil) quit from party posts, I have not gone for any discussion or reactions on that,” he said.
He added that this address would be his “first and last” comment on his son Anil joining the BJP.
Earlier in the day, Anil K Antony joined the BJP, two months after he resigned from his positions in the Congress following a controversy over his comments on a BBC documentary on Gujarat riots.
Following his joining, Anil targeted the Congress leadership accusing it of working for a “single family” instead of working for the country. On being asked if he had consulted his father on his decision, Anil said: “this is about differences of opinion and ideas.”
