A couple from Mumbai allegedly drowned on Friday while taking a stroll on a beach in North Goa, said police. The couple were among 14 tourists from Mumbai who had come to Goa for a holiday.

According to the police, the incident took place at 11 am. Police said that a ‘distress call’ was received about three people drowning at Candolim beach in North Goa.

North Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Akshat Kaushal said, two couples from the group went for a morning walk on the beach. “While walking on the beach, three people were swept away by the high waves,” the SP said. While some locals rescued a woman and rushed her to the hospital, the tourist police unit and lifeguard crew fished out two bodies from the sea, he said.
