Omar Abdullah to initiate legal action against BJP over ‘terror-friendly’ parties remark

“Our party will explore the option of legal action against BJP. Such allegations cannot go unanswered. Because non-BJP parties have the numbers in assembly and are coming together to form a government, they become ‘terror-friendly’ and ‘anti-national’. This won’t be tolerated,” he said.

The J&K Assembly, kept in suspended animation since June when Governor’s Rule was imposed after the BJP ended its alliance with the PDP to bring down the Mehbooba Mufti coalition, was dissolved shortly after PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti and J&K People’s Conference chief Sajad Gani Lone staked separate claims to form a government.

“One of their (tv) channels was even claiming that this mahaghatbandan (of PDP, NC, Congress) was hatched in Dubai and London by Pakistan. This is becoming too much. No party has given more sacrifices than NC. Thousands of our workers have been killed over the years. What is BJP’s contribution in J&K other than this defamatory language,” Abdullah said.

On Wednesday night, J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik dissolved the state assembly citing the “impossibility of forming a stable government by the coming together of political parties with opposing political ideologies” and the “fragile security scenario in the state… where there is a need to have a stable and supportive environment for security forces”.

Expressing “serious doubts about the longevity of any such arrangement where there are competing claims of majority”, he said dissolution of the Assembly is “the best course of action… to provide stability and security to the state and hold elections at an appropriate time so that a government with a clear mandate is duly formed”.

Setting aside their differences for the time being, the People’s Democratic Party, NC and Congress came together to foil a BJP move to stitch an alliance and prop up a government with ally Lone as Chief Minister.
