According to Baghel, the government of Chhattisgarh is run by “remote control from Delhi”. He also took a swipe at the CM’s wife over a light-hearted remark she made in August at being the state’s “super CM”.
Slamming Chhattisgarh’s Vishnu Deo Sai-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over recent issues such as the Jaitkham desecration, former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel said there was “no caste in the state that doesn’t feel insulted”.
The former CM was speaking at the conclusion of the Congress’s six-day Nyay Yatra. The 125-km yatra, which is aimed at highlighting the government’s “failures” since it came to power late last year, began on September 27 at Baloda Bazar and ended in Raipur. According to the party, hundreds of people, including Congress workers, attended the march.
Significantly, Baloda Bazar witnessed vandalism and arson in June after protests over the May desecration of Jaitkham — a structure that holds religious significance for the Satnam Panth sect – turned violent. Apart from Baghel, former Rajasthan deputy CM Sachin pilot, and senior Congress leaders TS Singh Deo and Deepak Baij spoke at the event.
According to Baghel, the government of Chhattisgarh is run by “remote control from Delhi”. He also took a swipe at the CM’s wife over a light-hearted remark she made in August at being the state’s “super CM”.
“Vishnu Deo’s wife says she is super CM, then what is (Chhattisgarh Finance Minister) OP Choudhary? He is super-duper (CM) then! What about the two deputy CMs (Vijay Sharma and Arun Sao)? What happens to them? Nobody listens to them. Hence, its Congress responsibility to raise voice. Stand with victims,” he said, addressing a crowd of Congress workers at Raipur’s Gandhi ground.
Sachin Pilot, the All India Congress Committee general secretary who’s in-charge of Chhattisgarh, claimed the BJP government “is drunk with power, and this yatra is to wake them up from their sleep”.
“The violence and exploitation against the poor, Dalit, tribals and women must stop,” he said.
On its part, the BJP called the yatra a “flop show”
“The people lost faith in Congress when they were voted out of power last year. They should apologise for failing to give houses to 18 lakh poor people under the Awas Yojna,” BJP’s state general secretary Sanjaay Shrivastava told The Indian Express.
