The police Thursday arrested a medical student from a hostel from Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) after it allegedly found burnt OMR sheets of MBBS examinations and admit cards of NEET UG and PG as well as cash worth Rs 2.75 lakh. The seizures have prompted the police to investigate the accused’s possible links with the accused in last year’s NEET UG paper leak case, currently being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation

According to the police, the seizures were made from the hostel room allegedly still occupied by a former student of PMCH, Ajay Kumar Singh. After police booked Ajay, who has an MCh in plastic surgery, PMCH principal Dr Vidyapati Choudhary set up a three-member committee to look into the possible leak.

“We found burnt currency notes worth Rs 2.75 lakh in denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 100, 40 admit cards, 30 OMR sheets of MBBS examinations, a mobile phone with a SIM and a liquor bottle from a room in Chankya hostel of PMCH,” Patna’s Pirhbahore Police station in-charge Mohammed Abdul Halim told reporters.

According to the police, Ajay, a resident of Samastipur, had been living in the Chanakya hostel since 2016 and continued to live there after he graduated in 2022.

“Two rooms of the hostel were under his control… We are also finding out if Ajay is directly or indirectly linked with the NEET UG paper leak case, currently being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation,” a Patna police officer said.

Paper leaks marred the NEET UG examinations held on May 5 last year, with investigations finding Bihar to be the epicentre of the leak. The CBI took over the case on June 25
