Nabha jailbreak: Suspended ADGP is back

Following the Nabha jailbreak where six inmates, including Khalistan Liberation Force militant Harminder Singh Mintoo and four gangsters had escaped from the Maximum Security Nabha Jail, Tiwari was suspended and the jail superintendent and acting deputy superintendent were dismissed.

Mintoo was arrested by Delhi police. Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Chauhan said Mintoo would be brought to Punjab on production warrant. “We have obtained an order from a local court and Mintoo would be brought here by December 15 or 16, depending upon completion of the formalities involved,” Chauhan said.

Another arrest in the case was made by Uttar Pradesh which arrested Palwinder Singh, who was subsequently interrogated by Punjab police after being brought to Punjab on production warrant.

Palwinder was among those who had stormed Nabha jail and escaped with inmates while opening fire.

Among those arrested in the Nabha jailbreak case include Bikkar Singh, Gurpreet Singh who allegedly aided the jailbreak. Nabha Jail Assistant Superintendent Bhim Singh, head warder Jagmeet Singh and Tejinder Sharma, owner of Shagun Sweets in Nabha, had also been arrested.

Kashmir Singh, who was arrested for an attack on Shiv Sena Punjab Secretary Harvinder Soni in April last year, is among the inmates who had escaped and is yet to be arrested.

The other four who had escaped from the jail are gangsters Vicky Gounder, Gurpreet Sekhon, Amandeep Dhotian and Kulpreet Neetu aka Neeta Deol.
