Muslim delegation meets authorities after 437 loudspeakers are taken down from religious places in Indore

He said an appeal has also been made to the management of these places not to use loudspeakers in the future.

A delegation led by Indore’s Shahar Qazi, Mohammad Ishrat Ali, met Collector Ashish Singh to voice concerns over the action.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Ali said, “Be it temples or mosques, loudspeakers have been removed from all the religious places in the city. We demand loudspeakers be allowed in religious places within the permissible noise limit as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court.”

“Why are restrictions being imposed on loudspeakers only in religious places?” he asked, questioning why DJs playing loud music at weddings were not being banned.

District Magistrate Ashish Singh said the loudspeakers at religious places had been removed on the state government’s instructions, and that everyone should follow the directive.

The action comes after Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, in a meeting with police officials, asked them to enforce guidelines surrounding the use of loudspeakers. A day after Yadav was sworn in as CM last year, he had issued an order banning loudspeakers/DJs at religious gatherings and public places at a volume exceeding prescribed limits, and announced an “intensive campaign” to check “illegal buying and selling of meat, fish, etc”.
