Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai claimed on Tuesday that more leaders from other political parties, including current and former legislators, will join the saffron party in the coming days.

Addressing reporters in Tiruppur, where his ‘En Mann En Makkal (My Land, My People)’ padayatra is set to conclude in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Annamalai said that when important personalities join the party, it may not be necessary that they join at a specific time or place as some may wish to join the BJP in New Delhi.

The remark follows his statement on Monday when the state BJP president had claimed that big leaders of certain parties would be joining the BJP in Coimbatore, but the event was postponed for reasons unknown. “Several big leaders will join the party… It will happen. When big leaders from other parties join our party, we also need to pacify senior leaders in our party. The BJP is travelling on a new path,” he said on Tuesday.

On Saturday, three-time Congress MLA S Vijayadharani, who was elected from Vilavancode constituency in Kanniyakumari district, joined the BJP. She was also seen participating in Annamalai’s yatra in Tiruppur on Tuesday.

Annamalai said that Kanniyakumari is a strong BJP zone which boasts several leaders and when a seasoned politician like Vijayadharani resigns her MLA post with two years of her tenure still remaining and joins the party, it becomes imperative to ensure a harmonious relationship between existing senior leaders in the BJP and the newcomers.

“People who are coming to the BJP now possess the acumen to contest the polls. The party believes newcomers should be treated with respect. Our focus now is on our Prime Minister’s rally. Please wait for some time, you will see more key members joining the BJP,” Annamalai said.

Further, he added that the BJP is not involved in poaching members from other parties but people had been coming to their party on their own.
