Erode East | Independents vs Regional players: In Erode East, a total of 46 candidates—including 44 independents—are vying for the seat. However, the key contest is between the ruling DMK and Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK). DMK has fielded former MLA V C Chandrakumar, while NTK is represented by M K Seethalakshmi. Notably, the main opposition parties AIADMK and BJP have boycotted the by-poll, which was necessitated by the death of Congress MLA EVKS Elangovan. Elangovan had secured a massive victory in the February 2023 by-election, winning by over 66,000 votes.
