Manipur govt distributes Rs 300-crore benefits under welfare schemes

The newly launched schemes included a special package for successful startups to employ internally displaced persons, CM Yarn Scheme (including Muga silk buyback) and a livelihood guarantee scheme for sportspersons

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday distributed benefits amounting to Rs 300 crore among over four lakh beneficiaries under various Government schemes and launched new schemes.

The newly launched schemes included a special package for successful startups to employ internally displaced persons, CM Yarn Scheme (including Muga silk buyback) and a livelihood guarantee scheme for sportspersons. Benefits under these schemes will be transferred directly to bank accounts.

Chief Minister Singh highlighted his Government’s various welfare initiatives aimed at ensuring inclusive development in the state. Initiatives such as Go to Hills, Go to Village, Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (health scheme), Startup Manipur and a widow pension scheme have been taken up to benefit both the valley and the hills, he said.

Singh said the unprecedented ethnic conflict and recent natural calamities have hindered developmental activities in the state. But he said the state’s territorial integrity would remain intact.

Singh said that medical teams comprising doctors, nurses and multitasking staff were formed to serve inmates of relief camps. Such teams visit relief camps twice a week, with 68 teams having visited 238 camps. Also, mental health counselling facilities have been provided to the inmates and 1,436 free medical check-ups conducted.

The benefits were distributed on Thursday under schemes including the CMESS for Relief Camp Inmates, special assistance of Rs 1 lakh per displaced family in relief camps, educational aid, college students rehabilitation scheme, one-time special assistance, hailstorm relief, flood relief, CM’s Yaipha Tengbang Scheme and incentives for artisans.
