Low pressure formed in Bay of Bengal: IMD

There are chances that the system could intensify and develop into a cyclonic storm during the upcoming week. If realised, this will be the first cyclone developing in the North Indian Ocean basin this year.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Wednesday said that a low pressure had formed over southwest Bay of Bengal.

There are chances that the system could intensify and develop into a cyclonic storm during the upcoming week. If realised, this will be the first cyclone developing in the North Indian Ocean basin this year.

” The low pressure area prevails off north Tamil Nadu-south Andhra Pradesh coasts. It is likely to move north-eastwards and strengthen into a depression over central parts of Bay of Bengal by early May 24. It would continue to move north-eastwards and intensify further thereafter,” the IMD said in its weather update on Wednesday morning.
