Rajasthan minister quits,says news story damaged his image

Jat said that he resigned as he was upset by the allegations levelled by the newspaper.

Rajasthan minister Ramlal Jat today resigned in the wake of a news item in a vernacular daily levelling allegations against him.

The newspaper alleged that Jat,minister of State for Forest and Environment,had tried to pressurise the Bhilwara district administration to conduct post-mortem on a woman in the middle of the night in September.

Paras Devi,wife of the Bhilwara Dairy chairman Ratanlal Jat,died in mysterious circumstances in a hospital,according to the daily.

It alleged the minister was in a hurry to get the post-mortem done and exercised his influence for the purpose.

Jat said that he resigned as he was upset by the allegations levelled by the newspaper.

“The news has damaged my and my family’s image and I am disappointed. So,I resigned,” he said.

Jat is the third minister in the Ashok Gehlot government to bow out of office this year.

Minister of State for Rural Development and Waqf Amin Khan resigned for his comments on President Pratibha Patil in February.

Water Resoucres minister Mahipal Maderna was axed last month in the wake of the raging Bhanwari Devi controversy.
