Prohibitory orders imposed in Jabalpur after communal clash

Police cane-charged mob and fired teargas shells;2 policemen sustained injuries in incident: Police

Prohibitory orders under section 144 of the IPC were imposed today in parts of Jabalpur following a clash between members of a minority and majority community at the Choti Omti area,police said.

Trouble began when a procession organised on the eve of Janmashtami festival was passing through Choti Omti area and members of both the communities pelted stones at each other,they said.

Police cane-charged the mob and also fired teargas shells. Two policemen sustained injuries in the incident,police said.

Later,as a precautionary measure,section 144 was imposed in Omti,Kotwali,Lordsganj,Bailbad,Cantt and Hanumantal,they said,adding that additional police force has been deployed in the troubled areas.
