No need for Gen V K Singh to resign: Swamy

“Gen V K Singh should regard the Supreme Court proceedings as a vindication of his honour because his basic point has been accepted which is that 1950 is the administratively determined year of his birth and not his biological one.

“There is,therefore,no need for him to resign since it is a consent order of the court,” Swamy said in a statement.

Describing Singh as an “honest and upright officer”,Swamy said he will welcome the General if he joins public service in civilian life.

Singh had dragged the government to the Supreme Court last month after the Ministry rejected the plea that his date of birth should be considered as May 10,1951 instead of May 10,1950 which is in Army records.

The apex court said it was not in favour of entertaining Singh’s petition that his date of birth should be treated in official records as May 10,1951 and gave him option of withdrawing it.

Following the apex court’s observations,Singh withdrew his petition.
