MP Jamiat-Ulma demands probe into Digvijay’s Karkare remarks

Haroon said that Singh’s statement can’t be overlooked by saying that it was insult to martyrs.

The Madhya Pradesh unit of Jamiat-Ulma today demanded a high-level probe into Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh’s statement that slain ATS chief Hemant Karkare had spoken to him about a threat to his life allegedly from Hindu ‘extremists’.

In a statement issued today,Jamiat-Ulma State President Haji Mohammad Haroon said there has been simmering anger over the turn of investigations into Karkare’s death.

Haroon said that Singh was a responsible political leader and his statement about Karkare receiving threats cannot be overlooked by dismissing it into thin air or saying that it was an insult to martyrs.

He said that earlier secular leaders like A R Antulay had also made similar statements but not much attention was paid to them.

Singh’s statement did not in anyway lessen Karkare’s sacrifice and an inquiry into it would help find out the “impure elements” who were behind the police official’s killing,Haroon said.

Singh is in the thick of a storm following his statements that Karkare had spoken to him before he was killed in the 26/11 attacks, about a threat to his life from those opposed to his probe into the Malegaon blasts,in which Hindu extremists were allegedly involved.
