A witness in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case has claimed that he was told by two of the accused that Kausarbi was allegedly raped before being killed.
Lakhubha Chudasama,a head constable posted as driver with state Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) office in November 2005,said this in his statement which is part of the supplementary charge sheet filed by CBI last week.
In his statement to the investigating agency,Chudasama said he was the driver of ATS vehicle used by accused Santram Sharma and Ajay Parmar.
He further stated that a few days after Sohrabuddin’s encounter he had asked the two ATS officials — Sharma and Parmar (both now accused in the case) who were part of the operation — about the encounter.
Chudasama said Parmar told him how they carried out the operation and who all were part of it and how they brought Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausarbi to Arham farm in Gandhinagar from Sangli in Maharashtra.
“With regard to Kausarbi,I say that Parmar and Sharma had told me that SI Balkrishna Chaubey (another accused in the case) who was deputed to look after Kausarbi, had raped her in the farmhouse,” he said.
When they were discussing the matter a senior official came there,so they stopped talking,he added.
Chudasama, who is now posted with the State Reserve Police (SRP) Training Academy in Jundagadh, further said that after the encounter,Chaubey,Sharma and Parmar had taken his vehicle to Ankleshwar without his knowledge.
They also refused to make entry into the log book of the vehicle,he said, adding Chaubey had later made false entries in it.
According to the CBI charge sheet,Kausarbi was killed and her body burnt by the accused in D G Vanzara’s native village Illol in Sabarkantha district and her ashes were thrown into the Narmada river near Ankleshwar.
Sohrabuddin’s brother Rubabuddin Sheikh had recently claimed in the Gujarat High Court that Kausarbi was killed by accused N K Amin in the ATS office.
The CBI is still mum on how Kausarbi was killed and who was directly responsible for it.
The CBI,in its charge sheet, has recommended that all charges against Sharma and Parmar be dropped as they were junior level officers and working under orders from seniors.
Sharma and Parmar were constables posted with the ATS and were part of the team that executed the encounter of Sohrabuddin on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on November 26,2005,and later eliminated Kausarbi and burnt her body.
Both are presently lodged in Sabarmati Central jail here along with other accused in the case.
