Fears over Koodankulam Plant ‘valid and genuine’: BJP

The “apprehensions of the people are genuine and valid,” he told reporters here,adding the government should take a “sensitive decision” on the matter.

He however insisted that Parliament should discuss such issues thoroughly and comprehensively,being the ‘representative body,’ of the people and called for more transparency on part of government on such matters.

Asked about corruption charges against party colleague and former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddurappa,Rao said he was facing legal proceedings though the party could have dealt with the issue in a different way.

“He has resigned and is facing legal proceedings. The State cabinet could have disowned the Lokayukta report (on land denotification).

“But what action has Congress taken against Union Home Minister P Chidambaram or Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on the Shunglu Panel Report on Commonwealth Games,” he asked.

The Finance Ministry note of March 25,2011 had said that the 2G scam could have been avoided had Chidambaram,the then Finance Minister,insisted on auctioning of spectrum instead of giving it on 2001 prices.

Rao also described as “speculation of media thinking,” any rivalry between party leaders L K Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Rao,one of the team members behind Advani’s Jan Chetna Yatra aimed against corruption and black money stashed abroad,said the senior leader would tour Tamil Nadu on October 27 and 28 before proceeding to Kerala.

Slamming the Centre on the black money issue,he asked why it had not released the names of persons,allegedly holding black money in foreign accounts.
