Curfew lifted from the Valley,fresh protest calander out

Even as curfew was removed,hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani called for a fresh protests.

Feeling improvement in the overall law and order situation,curfew was relaxed in Srinagar and other towns across the Kashmir valley on Sunday.

Phased relaxation in curfew and restrictions were given,while as other restrictions under section 144 (CrPc) continued to remain in place in almost all places.

Meanwhile,separatists issued a fresh shutdown calendar for the next ten days asking people to march towards north Kashmir’s Baramulla and Kupwara towns on October 3 and 5 respectively.

With curfew and restrictions being relaxed by authorities,Valley came to life again in the afternoon today. People thronged to markets to purchase the daily consumption commodities and medicines. Traffic also moved normally as public and private transport started to ply on roads.

In volatile north Kashmir’s Sopore,Baramulla,Bandipore and Kupwara townships,phased relaxations in curfew were given today afternoon. In Sopore town,however,restrictions were strengthened Saturday evening after three protestors were injured when police opened fire and fired tear smoke shells to disperse them. Curfew was also lifted from almost all the places in central Kashmir and south Kashmir.

“There is an improvement in the overall law and order situation in Kashmir,” police spokesman said. “So we decided to give relaxations in the phased manner. But the other restrictions under section 144 CrPc are still in place”.

The hard-line separatist leader,Syed Ali Shah Geelani,had called off shutdown for Sunday. However,a new shutdown calendar for next ten days has also been issues by the separatists.

According to a statement issued here,the hard-line separatist leader,Syed Ali Shah Geelani has announced a fresh protest calendar for ten days. “On Monday (September 27) complete strike should be observed across Kashmir. People should registered their protest and aware world community about the happenings in Kashmir through internet on the same day,” the statement said.

Separatists have urged people to observe complete strike amid peaceful protests on September 28. However,on the following day,there will be no strike and all the activities would be carried out normally.

On September 30,people have been asked to observe complete strike and to stage peaceful protests. “On October 1,(Friday),people should stage peaceful protests after Friday prayers while no strike should be observed,” the statement said. “On October 2,there should be complete strike. On October 3,people should march toward Baramulla to express solidarity with the martyrs.”

On October 4,separatists have given another breather calling off their strike for one day. However,on October 5,people have been asked to march towards north Kashmir’s Kupwara town. The statement further said that peaceful protests should be held throughout the day on October 6. The statement,however,said no strike should be observed between 7 pm to 7am.
