The office of NCP leader and Ratnagiri district guardian minister Bhaskar Jadhav was ransacked at Chiplun today, amid a flare-up of rivalry between him and Narayan Rane of Congress, both from the coastal Konkan region.
The act of vandalism came after verbal sparring between Rane, the state industries minister and Jadhav. The political rivalry between the two has intensified of late.
Hundreds of NCP workers came onto Mumbai-Goa highway this afternoon, blocking traffic for over three hours, demanding action against the culprits. There were reports that Congress office in Chiplun was also attacked in retaliation, but police did not confirm it.
Congress MP from Ratnagiri,Nilesh Rane (Narayan Ranes son) had recently warned NCP against poaching on Congress turf in Konkan.
Reacting to the attack on his office,Jadhav alleged here that Nilesh was involved in the incident. It is the information of police that Nilesh was present and also, there are many people who have seen him there, the minister said, adding that he had filed a police complaint against him.
State Congress chief Manikrao Thakre, however, said without naming anyone that it does not behove a senior minister to comment in such a manner on his colleague. Rane had been recently critical of NCP. Local media had quoted him as saying that despite having the power portfolio in the state,Congress never supported the Jaitapur nuclear power project in Konkan.
At his rally in Ratnagiri ahead of the zilla parishad elections Konkan,Rane had said the alliance partner should understand its limitations, and follow the coalition ‘dharma.
