Pitching for commissioning the controversial Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP),Tamil Nadu unit of BJP on Wednesday termed as 'anti-national' certain demands of the agitators opposed to the plant and urged the Centre to take action against those behind the over three-month long stir. If the agitators want more security aspects in the plant, they could press for it. They cannot oppose the project outright. They should not be adamant. Such adamant attitude is not good for the country. If the plant is commissioned Tamil Nadu's power problem would be solved to some extent, state BJP President Pon Radhakrishnan said. He criticised the agitators demanding details about certain features of the KNPP which should be kept secret. Such demands are anti-national and will harm the safety and security of the Plant. It will only affect the local people. The Central government should find out who all were behind the continuing agitation against the Indo-Russian project and take action against them. Why should people have doubts about its safety after experts like (former President) A P J Abdul Kalam gave a clean chit on the safety arrangements? he asked. The protesters had sought from the Central expert committee information on inter-governmental agreement,Russian and Indian nuclear liability issues and Nuclear Suppliers Group related matter. The panel had turned down their demand saying these were beyond its mandate. Radhakrishnan also demanded withdrawal of the recent hike in the prices of milk and bus fare, saying it had badly affected the poor and middle class people. On the 2G spectrum scam,he demanded the removal of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, against whom the party has announced a boycott in Parliament. Pressing his removal,BJP would organise demonstrations against Chidambaram whenever he visits Tamil Nadu. He took a dig at newly appointed Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B S Gnanadesikan calling on DMK chief M Karunanidhi after blaming the party ministers for the 2G scam.
