Thane police have arrested seven men who tried to secure jobs in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) office at Tarapur town using fake documents.
The police ruled out any threat to the country’s premier nuclear research centre as no BARC official or employee connived with the accused.
Tarapur also has India’s largest nuclear power station,operated by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited. The accused arrested by Tarapur Police Station were identified as Mahendra Pawar,Sudam Kenekar,Amit Sawant,Neelkanth Sawant,Mahesh Mhatre,Maruti Pawaskar,Manoj Gujjar and Shyam Mhatre. All are jobless,police said adding they were verifying if they had any criminal background.
Pawar,the kingpin of the gang,had prepared fake appointment letters for his seven associates,who with the help of the letters,tried to go to the Centre’s office when they were stopped at the BARC colony entry gate by security men on Tuesday.
When the guards verified their documents,they were turned out to be fake and the seven were handed over to the police,Senior Inspector S G Mullemwar said.
The seven,all of them from Mumbai,were arrested on the charges of cheating and forging the documents,following a complaint by Suresh Sharma,a security assistant at the BARC,he said.
