India is awaiting a reply from Pakistan on its request to send a team there to question suspects in the Mumbai terror attack case before it decides on allowing a commission from Islamabad,Home Minister P Chidambaram said today.
Addressing his monthly press conference,he said India has asked Pakistan to allow a team to question some people suspected to be involved in the 26/11 Mumbai carnage.
“We are awaiting an answer for the question that we have put forth,” Chidambaram said.
He added documentary evidence which Pakistan wanted from India will be provided to them in the next few days.
The Home Minister said India has agreed in-principle to allow a commission from Pakistan to visit here in connection with the 26/11 investigations.
“We just agreed to allow a commission to come to India to record the evidence of the Investigating Officer,the Magistrate,who recorded the statements,and some doctors,who conducted the postmortem. We are awaiting a reply to our questions,” Chidambaram said.
To a question,he said: “It does not mean one way or the other. We will take a view once we get a final and firm answer.”
