Comedian Kunal Kamra, who has found himself at the centre of a controversy over his comments on Shiv Sena supremo and Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, approached the Madras High Court Friday seeking a transit anticipatory bail in the matter. An FIR was lodged against Kunal Kamra in Mumbai over his remarks on Shinde in his YouTube comedy special 'Naya Bharat', where he referred to the Shiv Sena chief as 'gaddar' (traitor). The video sparked a massive outrage, and Mumbai Police issued two summonses to Kamra, urging him to appear for questioning before March 31. Kamra approached the Madras High Court as he lives in Villupuram in Tamil Nadu. The case has been listed for urgent hearing today, March 28, in front of Justice Sunder Mohan. The comic highlighted in his plea that he has been receiving hundreds of death threats since his video was uploaded on YouTube. The matter will be heard after recess today. What is the FIR in Mumbai about? The FIR was filed against Kunal Kamra with the Mumbai Police after his video sparked an outrage. The FIR was filed by Shiv Sena MLA Muraji Patel under Sections 353(1)(b), 353(2) [Public mischief] and 356(2) [Defamation] of the BNS. The Mumbai Police asked Kamra to appear for questioning before March 31 in its second summon to the comedian. Kamra urged the Mumbai police to grant him seven days to reach the city, a request the cops refused. Meanwhile, a breach of privilege notice was also filed against Kamra by the Maharashtra Legislative Council for his remarks on Eknath Shinde. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare has also been named in the notice. Shiv Sena workers vandalise The Habitat Hours after the video was uploaded on YouTube, Shiv Sena workers reached comedy club The Habitat and vandalised the space, expressing their outrage over Kamra's remarks on Eknath Shinde and the Shiv Sena. The Habitat, in a media statement, said that it has no connection with the content artists choose to perform, and is shutting down until further notice. 12 Shiv Sena workers were arrested in connection connection with the vandalism of Kamra's comedy video venue, and were sent to 15 days of judicial custody. They were released on bail hours after their arrest.
