Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju Monday said the alleged links between the Congress and Hungarian-American businessman should be considered “serious” and urged the opposition party  to fight unitedly against “anti-India forces”. He also said the matter should not be viewed through a “political lens.”

“I wish to tell the leaders and workers of the Congress that even if their own party leaders are found to be working in tandem with anti-India forces, they should raise their voice against them,” Rijiju said, speaking ahead of the day’s Parliament session in Delhi.

The BJP minister’s statement comes a day after the BJP alleged that former Congress president Sonia Gandhi has links to an organisation financed by the George Soros Foundation and which has backed the idea of Kashmir as an independent nation.

Further, Rijiju said that the government does not view this issue as party politics.

“We have told Congress and other parties that we will discuss over the Constitution on December 13 and 14 (in Lok Sabha) and on December 16 and 17 (in Rajya Sabha),” he added.

BJP’s claims on Sonia Gandhi-George Soros link

The BJP on Sunday alleged that former Congress president Sonia Gandhi is the co-president of the Forum of the Democratic Leaders in Asia Pacific (FDL-AP) Foundation which is linked to an organisation financed by the George Soros Foundation.

“Notably, the FDL-AP Foundation has expressed their views that treat Kashmir as a separate entity,” the BJP said.

The ruling party has on multiple occasions accused Soros of being an anti-national force, with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar calling him “old, opinionated and dangerous” in February 2023.

Earlier on Thursday, BJP MP Sambit Patra called the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi a “traitor of the highest order”, levelling accusations against him of conspiring to “destabilise” the country.

Along with Gandhi, Patra named George Soros and the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), a global collective of investigative journalists, as forming a “dangerous triangle”.
