Key accused in murder of Tripura’s Bharat Ratna Sangha club secretary held from Assam
Durga Prasanna Deb alias Viki Deb was shot dead inside his car at Salbagan on the outskirts of Agartala on April 30.

Barely three months after Durga Prasanna Deb alias Viki Deb, secretary of one of Tripura’s biggest social clubs, was shot dead at point-blank range inside his car near a paramilitary station on Agartala’s outskirts, police arrested the key accused in the case from Assam on Wednesday.
“The prime accused, namely Raju Barman, 37, of Chinaihani at Ushabazar in Agartala’s airport police station area, was arrested this afternoon from Chatabari under the Boko police station in Kamrup district of Assam,” a senior police officer told indianexpress.com.
After Durga Prasanna Deb, secretary of the Bharat Ratna Sangha, was shot dead at Salbagan on April 30, the police found out that enmity between two groups of the club had led to the sensational murder.
Later, the police arrested seven people in the case—former club president Pradyut Dhar Chowdhury, Sushmita Sarkar, Uma Sarkar, Birchakra Ghosh, Sani Saha, Sandip Kar and Rakesh Barman. Among them, Birchakra Ghosh, Sandip Kar and Rakesh Barman were arrested from Kolkata.
