With the rehabilitation of the families displaced by Tuesday’s Wayanad landslide tragedy emerging as a prime concern, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said the government is planning a township for the survivors.

After a review meeting, Vijayan told the media that discussions have already been initiated at the government level for a township. “We wanted to ensure exemplary rehabilitation for those left homeless in the tragedy. It requires huge effort and efficient planning. A large human settlement has been wiped out. Instead of that settlement, the government is planning to erect a safe township for them. All facilities will be used for completing the rehabilitation at the earliest,” he said.

Vijayan said steps would be taken for ensuring the education of students of the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Vellarmala, which got destroyed in the landslide.
