Kerala HC advocates seek transfer of judge for ‘insulting’ colleagueThe decision was taken after the association last week accused the HC judge of insulting an advocate, who had recently lost her husband, in open court.

The Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association Monday decided to approach the Chief Justice of India (CJI) seeking the transfer of Justice A Badharudeen from the High Court.

The decision was taken after the association last week accused the HC judge of insulting an advocate, who had recently lost her husband, in open court. Lawyers had subsequently boycotted Justice Badharudeen’s court. Last week, the association had petitioned Kerala HC Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar, saying they had received complaints regarding alleged misconduct by Justice Badharudeen in the courtroom.

On Monday, the association’s general body decided to write to the CJI seeking Justice Badharudeen’s transfer.

Association secretary M R Nandakumar said lawyers have decided not to continue the boycott of Justice Badharudeen’s court. At the same time, the association has demanded that proceedings at the High Court be recorded on video. The secretary said if this is not implemented, lawyers will stay away from proceedings in the future.

In the letter to the HC Chief Justice last week, the association had said the Kerala High Court was the first to have e-filing and virtual courts, “but for strange reasons, we have not embraced transparency.
