In all the seven seats in Jharkhand that had voted till May 20, the turnout among women outnumbered the men in each. Jharkhand had its first phase of voting on May 13, when the gap between turnout for women and men was 3.84%. On May 20, this rose to 6.29%.
Kodarma, apart from Chatra and Hazaribagh Lok Sabha seats, saw the biggest gap across their 16 Assembly segments – which was seen in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls as well. However, Kodarma particularly stood out with the difference between female and male turnout as high as 15.85% (70% to 54.15%).
Incidentally, Kalpana Soren, the wife of jailed former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, is contesting a bypoll from the Gandey Assembly seat that falls under Kodarma. Seeking votes in the name of her husband, Kalpana has been drawing huge crowds, especially of women, for the JMM.

These are the electoral contests to watch out for today:
Dumka - Dumka, a turf of the Sorens is seeing a fight for supremacy, between BJP's Sita Soren and JMM's Nalin Soren. Till 2019, this was a JMM fortress, and it is to be seen if Hemant Soren's arrest will have an impact here.
Singhbhum - In 2019, it had been won by Geeta Koda of the Congress, at a time when ‘Modi wave’ was at its peak. However, the leader later defected to the BJP. Now, she will face JMM's Joba Manjhi.
Khunti - The Union Tribal Affairs and Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda will be locked in an electoral contest with Congress' Kali Charan Munda.
Lohardaga - This seat will see Samir Oraon (BJP) and Sukhdeo Bhagat (Congress) locked in a contest. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Lohardaga seat was won by BJP candidate Sudarshan Bhagat, while Congress candidate Sukhdeo Bhagat had come in second place.
Godda - The he electoral battle will play out between the incumbent MP from Godda, i.e., Nishikant Dubey of BJP and the incumbent MLA of Mahagama, Pradeep Yadav of Congress. BJP holds the mantle of being called the dominant party on this seat as they have won eight out of the last nine Lok Sabha elections from this seat, including the last three back-to-back, i.e., in 2009, 2014 and 2019.
