Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh Election Results 2024 Highlights: Jyotiraditya Scindia, Shivraj Singh Chouhan secure victories as BJP bags 7 seats in MP

Union Minister and BJP leader Faggan Singh Kulaste has won the Mandla Lok Sabha seat by a margin of more than 1,00,000 votes in Madhya Pradesh. He defeated Congress candidate Omkar Singh Markam, a sitting MLA from Sindori, to win the ST seat. This is the seventh time that Kulaste will be representing Mandla since 1996.

BJP's Shankar Lalwani, who is the sitting MP from Indore, has won the seat by a record-breaking margin of more than 11,00,000 votes.This is the highest victory margin in the Lok Sabha polls. Former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has also won from the Vidisha Lok Sabha seat.

BJP's Nishikant Dubey has taken a clear lead of more than 6,00,000 votes in the Godda Lok Sabha seat against Congress's Pradeep Yadav.

In Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior, BJP's Bharat Singh Kushwah is leading by more than 65,000 votes against Congress's Praveen Pathak.

Veteran Congress politician Digvijaya Singh is trailing by a margin of more than 5,00,000 votes, with BJP's Rodmal Nagar taking the lead in Rajgarh.

BJP's Jyotiraditya Scindia is leading by a margin of more than 5 lakh votes from the Guna Lok Sabha seat. The Gwalior royal family scion jumped ship from the Congress to the saffron party in 2020.

Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been declared the winner for Vidisha, bagging the seat by a margin of more than 8,00,000 votes. Chouhan, who is all set for his sixth term as a Member of Parliament, has defeated Congress's Pratapbhandu Sharma, according to latest data shared by the Election Commission of India.

Union Minister Virendra Kumar has been declared the winner for the Tikamgarh Lok Sabha seat. He won by a margin of more than 4,00,000 votes against Congress candidate  Pankaj Ahirwar.

Former Jharkhand CM Madhu Kora's wife Geeta is trailing by a margin of over 89,000 votes against JMM's Joba Manjhi in Singhbhum.Geeta joined the BJP days before the Lok Sabha elections.

BJP candidate from Indore Shankar Lalwani was declared the winner from Madhya Pradesh's Indore by a whopping margin of more than 11,00,000 votes. The saffron party has also won the Tikamgarh seat in the state.

The NDA - BJP and AJSUP - has a lead on 9 seats while the INDIA bloc  - JMM and Congress - is leading from five.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav claimed a BJP clean sweep in the state as the party maintains a lead in all 29 seats. Yadav said that this was a "significant moment" after independence for the country. He also said that former PM Jawaharlala Nehru's tenure doesn't fall in the same category, because he had taken on the post right after independence.

In Madhya Pradesh, where the BJP is inching towards a clean sweep,  Union Minister Faggan Singh Kulaste is leading from the Mandla Lok Sabha seat. The saffron party is ahead of its rivals on all 29 seats of the heartland state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trailing in the tribal seats of Singhbhum, Dumka, Lohardaga, Rajmahal and Khunti. Union Minister Arjun Munda is trailing from the Khunti (ST) seat. The INDIA bloc - with the Congress and JMM in alliance - is leading from all five of these constituencies.

Meanwhile, in the southern state of Kerala, the BJP is looking to make inroads, with early trends showing the National Democratic Aliance (NDA) leading in two seats. One of the leads has been taken by BJP's Suresh Gopi in Thrissur.

Congress leader and veteran politician Digvijay Singh is trailing from Rajgarh against BJP's Rodmal Nagar, who is leading by a margin of more than 70,000 votes, as per the Election Commission of India.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has won the Rae Bareli seat by a margin of more than 4 lakh votes, while also leading from Kerala's Wayanad constituency.

While the vote counting for the 14 seats in Jharkhand is underway, the bypoll trends for the Gandey seat are also coming in, with former CM Hemant Soren's wife Kalpana taking a thin lead by over 1000 votes after the fourth round. Kalpana was earlier trailing by over 2000 votes. The Gandey seat fell vacant after JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmad. resigned.

The Congress candidate Pratap Bhanu Sharma is trailing on the seat, as per the Election Commission of India. The BJP is looking for a clean sweep in the state, with the saffron party leading in all 29 seats.

In Madhya Pradesh, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Shivraj Singh have maintained a lead from the Guna and Vidisha Lok Sabha constituencies. Meanwhile, Kamal Nath's son Nakul is trailing by more than 70,000 votes in Chhindwara against the BJP's Vivek Bunty Sahu, with the former CM saying he accepts the decision of the people of the constituency. 

With counting of votes underway in Jharkhand, Union Tribal Affairs and Agriculture Minister and BJP MP Arjun Munda is trailing by a margin of over  97,000 votes in the Khunti (ST) seat. INDIA bloc candidate Kalicharan Munda, from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, is leading in the constituency, as per the Election Commission of India. In 2019, the former three-time chief minister had defeated Kalicharan by a thin margin of 1,445 votes.

Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath on Tuesday said that he accepts the results of the Lok Sabha elections, with his son Nakul trailing by a margin of about 71,441 votes from the Chhindwara seat. ''I accept the decision of the people of Chhindwara. The results for INDIA alliance are really good. INDIA should try to form the government with other alliance partners,' Kamal Nath said.

BJP is leading in 9 seats in Jharkhand and its ally AJSU is leading in 1 seat. JMM and INC are leading from 2.

Madhya Pradesh's Indore has recorded the highest ever for NOTA with around 1,11,691 votes. The Congress had asked the voters to vote NOTA as its candidate backed out at the last moment. 

BJP is leading in 7 seats in Jharkhand - Dumka, Godda, Jamshedpur, Lohardaga, Palamu, Hazaribagh, Koderma. Its ally AJSU is leading in Giridih. JMM is leading from 2: Rajmahal, Singhbhum.

BJP is also leading in two other seats: The saffron party's Bidyut Baran Mahato is leading Jamshedpur by a margin of 7074 votes, while VD Ram in Palamu lis eading by a margin of 5848 votes, show early ECI numbers.

BJP is leading in Godda, with Nishikant Dubey ahead of Congress's Pradeep Yadav with a margin of over 2,500 votes, as per early numbers on the ECI website.

The saffron party is asserting dominance according to early trends, with leads in 9 out of 14 seats, shows NDTV. Congress is leading in 4 seats.

Early trends based on postal ballots suggest INDIA bloc is leading in 2 seats in Jharkhand, NDA leading in 1.

For the 'Decode Politics' column, Abhishek Angad writes: "Addressing a poll rally in Dumka last Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led government in Jharkhand of “patronising infiltrators” who, he alleged, were grabbing land and putting women at risk...PM Modi also accused the JMM alliance of indulging in “communal and appeasement politics”, claiming that the term “love jihad” originated from Jharkhand."

Counting of votes for the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Jharkhand has begun, with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hoping to sweep the state.

In all the seven seats in Jharkhand that had voted till May 20, the turnout among women outnumbered the men in each. Jharkhand had its first phase of voting on May 13, when the gap between turnout for women and men was 3.84%. On May 20, this rose to 6.29%.

Kodarma, apart from Chatra and Hazaribagh Lok Sabha seats, saw the biggest gap across their 16 Assembly segments – which was seen in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls as well. However, Kodarma particularly stood out with the difference between female and male turnout as high as 15.85% (70% to 54.15%).

Incidentally, Kalpana Soren, the wife of jailed former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, is contesting a bypoll from the Gandey Assembly seat that falls under Kodarma. Seeking votes in the name of her husband, Kalpana has been drawing huge crowds, especially of women, for the JMM.

 In the last Lok Sabha elections in May 2019, out of the total 14 seats, the NDA had won 12, with a vote share of 56%. This included the 4.4% votes polled by its ally, All Jharkhand Students’ Union (AJSU), winning one seat. Congress and JMM bagged one seat each.

In his latest report, Abhishek Anagd writes: 'As many as 101 FIRs were filed in the period between March 18 and June 1 for alleged Model Code of Conduct violations in Jharkhand, including 49 against the BJP and its allies, 18 against INDIA parties, and the rest against individuals without a stated political affiliation or unidentified persons.

Distribution of voter slips with the message “Is baar 400 par, phir ek baar Modi sarkar (Once again Modi government, this time 400-plus)” within 100 metres of polling booths accounted for 19 FIRs filed across eight constituencies.'

These are the electoral contests to watch out for today:

Dumka - Dumka, a turf of the Sorens is seeing a fight for supremacy, between BJP's Sita Soren and JMM's Nalin Soren. Till 2019, this was a JMM fortress, and it is to be seen if Hemant Soren's arrest will have an impact here.

Singhbhum - In 2019, it had been won by Geeta Koda of the Congress, at a time when ‘Modi wave’ was at its peak.  However, the leader later defected to the BJP. Now, she will face JMM's Joba Manjhi.

Khunti - The Union Tribal Affairs and Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda will be locked in an electoral contest with Congress' Kali Charan Munda. 

Lohardaga -  This seat will see Samir Oraon (BJP) and Sukhdeo Bhagat (Congress) locked in a contest. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Lohardaga seat was won by BJP candidate Sudarshan Bhagat, while Congress candidate Sukhdeo Bhagat had come in second place.

Godda - The he electoral battle will play out between the incumbent MP from Godda, i.e., Nishikant Dubey of BJP and the incumbent MLA of Mahagama, Pradeep Yadav of Congress. BJP holds the mantle of being called the dominant party on this seat as they have won eight out of the last nine Lok Sabha elections from this seat, including the last three back-to-back, i.e., in 2009, 2014 and 2019.

In the last Lok Sabha elections in May 2019, out of the total 14 seats, the NDA had won 12, with a vote share of 56%. This included the 4.4% votes polled by its ally, All Jharkhand Students’ Union (AJSU), winning one seat. Congress and JMM bagged one seat each.

A total of 244 candidates — 212 men, 31 women and 1 transgender — are in the fray for the 14 Lok Sabha seats.

Polling in Jharkhand took place in four phases with the first, second, third and fourth phases seeing a turnout of 66.01%, 64.39%, 67.68%, and 68. 82%, respectively.

Of the seven states and one UT, only Bihar and Jharkhand had a higher turnout this time compared to 2019, while the remaining states and UT saw a decrease.
