Police in Jaipur have handed over 11 Bangladeshi nationals, who were allegedly living in Rajasthan illegally for several years, to authorities in the neighbouring country with the help of the Border Security Forces (BSF) on Sunday.
According to police, they came under the lens after some of them allegedly committed fraud with another Bangladeshi national, who went back to her country and filed a police complaint. Bangladeshi authorities subsequently informed police in Jaipur, who then started investigating the case.
The 11 people sent back included five women and three children.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Jaipur West) Amit Kumar said that after the investigation, the Bangladeshi nationals were sent to a detention centre in Alwar. “Later, we gave the custody of the accused persons to Bangladeshi authorities. All the accused had Indian and Bangladeshi passports. They had acquired the passports through fake documents. We are investigating the procedure through which they acquired the documents and will take action against the culprits,” said Kumar.
Police said one of the key accused, Sohag Khan, arrived in India two decades ago and had got a flat in Jaisinghpura using forged documents. Along with Bangladeshi identity cards, Sohag allegedly also had an Indian passport and Aadhaar cards.
Two others have been arrested in connection with allegedly making forged documents for the Bangladeshi nationals.
