Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday held a review meeting to discuss the sand shortage in the state. He called for a ‘sand week’ and instructed district administration officials and state Mining Development Corporation officers to work on the issue for the next week to ease the crisis.

An official said that at the meeting, Jagan dismissed allegations by opposition parties on his government’s sand policy, and said that due to unprecedented rains and floods, sand could not be drawn in the required quantity, but assured that everything will fall in place in due course.

Despite the government’s efforts to tackle the sand crisis, Jagan said that “stones were being pelted on the fruit-bearing tree. The opposition Telugu Desam Party is making unnecessary allegations”. He also told the officials that there is a need to condemn “all these false claims immediately”.
