A 32-year-old constable from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) shot dead his 56-year-old senior with his service weapon for allegedly humiliating him during a parade rehearsal in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district Monday.
The incident took place at around 8 am in the camp of ITBP’s 38th battalion.
“The accused Saroj Kumar’s gun got stuck in his lanyard whistle cord during the rehearsal which enraged his senior ASI (Assistant sub inspector) Devendra Singh Dahiya. Dahiya then abused and slapped Kumar. Half an hour later another argument took place between them after which Kumar fired 20 rounds on Dahiya from his INSAS rifle outside their barrack,” an officer from the Khanora police station. Kumar is a native of Bihar and Dahiya was from Haryana.
Confirming the development, Raipur senior superintendent of police, Lal Umed Singh told The Indian Express: “We have arrested Kumar on murder charges.”
This is the second such incident reported in recent time from Chhattisgarh. In September last year, enraged over bullying, a Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) jawan posted in an anti-Maoist camp in Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur district bordering Jharkhand had shot dead two of his colleagues and two injured two more.
