A lawyer defending Indian Mujhaideen operative Yasin Bhatkal, his close aide Asadullah Akhtar and Lashkar-e-Toiba bomb expert Abdul Karim ‘Tunda’ among several other terror accused has alleged that he has received threats to his life and family from the underworld.
On January 16, lawyer M S Khan informed the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station that he had received threats on his phone from a man identifying himself as gangster Ravi Pujari. He was allegedly asked to withdraw from Bhatkal’s case or face death. The caller allegedly reminded Khan that he had killed two defence lawyers earlier. Later, Khan allegedly recieved a text, saying, “I am going to kill one of your family members.”
The lawyer has sought protection from the police and sent letters regarding the threats to Delhi Police Commissioner and the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.
