Woman ‘killed’ for not forcing daughter-in-law to withdraw harassment case

Satish and Hukam Singh, who are now wanted on charges of murder, are absconding.

An 80-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by two brothers in Rewari district, when the woman refused to let her daughter-in-law withdraw a complaint of sexual harassment against their brother. On Wednesday, the woman was allegedly beaten in Asalwas village by Hukam Singh and Satish, when her daughter-in-law decided against withdrawing her complaint against their brother Dhaniram.

According to villagers, inaction by the police on the complaint lodged by the victims’s daughter-in-law on Saturday, resulted in her murder. “Had the police arrested Dhaniram, this would not have happened,” one of the villagers told mediapersons.

However, soon after the woman’s murder, the police acted on the complaint lodged by her daughter-in-law and arrested Dhaniram on charges of sexual harassment. Satish and Hukam Singh, who are now wanted on charges of murder, are absconding.
