Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Monday that even uttering ‘Om’ could lead to a controversy these days, with some alleging that the country had turned “communal”.
“Dekhiye, hamare desh mein kai utaar-chadhav hain, vaicharik dharatal par bhi utaar-chadhav aaye hain. Aaj agar koi Om bol de toh hafte bhar vivad chalta hai ki Om kaise bola ja sakta hai…Desh sampradayik hai (In our country, there have been ups and downs, including on ideological grounds.

Stating that no one has questioned the Ramcharitmanas so far, the PM said: “Ramcharitmanas ko kisi ne question nahin kiya…Ho sakta hai aaj ke baad kisi ka dhyaan jaaye aur toofan khada kar de, toh main nahin jaanta hoon (Noboby has questioned Ramcharitmanas. May be, now somebody focuses on it and raises a storm. I don’t know),” he said.
Appreciating the AIR for recording the epic over 22 years, the PM honoured the 14-member team during his address.
