If things fall in line,at least four cities in Haryana Sirsa,Ambala,Rohtak and Yamunanagar will be made slum free.
This will be made possible as as the state government has approved a pilot project under which these four cities shall be developed as slum free under the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY). The project was approved in a recent state level approval and monitoring committee meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
Giving details on the proposal,an official spokesperson said,Under the scheme,3,862 multi-storey houses will be constructed in Sirsa,Ambala and Rohtak. The number of houses to be constructed at Yamunanagar are yet to be finalised. Of the total Rs 311.09 crore project,Rs 95 crore will be spent on construction of 2,144 dwelling units at Sirsa,Rs 95.89 crore for 1,518 units at Rohtak,Rs 59.83 crore for 200 units at Ambala and Rs 60.37 crore on the units at Yamunanagar.
As per the proposal,the multi-storey houses will be built by Haryana Housing Board and the beneficiaries will be required to contribute 30 per cent of the cost of the units.
The cost will be further subsidised for households headed by a woman or those with a member suffering from physical or mental disability.
There were about one dozen notified slums in district Sirsa and initially one will be covered under the scheme. The site for construction of the houses has already been identified by the municipal council in Sirsa,in which 2,016 houses would be constructed near Kanganpur at an area of 55,776 sqm and 128 houses near Auto Market in Khaza Khera at an area of 28,716 sqm. Nearly Rs 10.94 crore will be spent for providing necessary facilities in this area, the spokesperson added.
