Tried to mollify Sarkaria but failed: Bajwa

PPCC president Pratap Singh Bajwa today said he had tried to assuage Congress MLA Sukhvinder Sarkaria’s concerns many times but it seemed that issues were unresolved.

PPCC president Pratap Singh Bajwa today said he had tried to assuage Congress MLA Sukhvinder Sarkaria’s concerns many times but it seemed that issues were unresolved.

Sarkaria had recently written to party chief Sonia Gandhi criticising Bajwa’s style of functioning while praising former Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh.

Answering queries from mediapersons following the general body meeting of the Congress here,Bajwa said he would ask Sarkaria what his problems were and would try to resolve them.

“I have been to his house twice following rumours about him. But I will not go there any more. He is welcome to meet me and raise whatever issues there are. He is like a younger brother and we have no bias against him,” Bajwa said.

Asked about the “rumours”,Bajwa refused to divulge details. Sources said Sarkaria was reportedly being wooed by SAD to join the Akali Dal.

“If the letter (to Sonia) has been written and sent to the party high command, the issue is already in their notice. It is best the high command takes a call on it now.” Bajwa said.

Asked about a mechanism to deal with such situations,Bajwa said,“It (a disciplinary committee) will be put in place as I am realising the need for such a committee,” he said.

On some MLAs saying they were not taken into confidence regarding a statement on Sarkaria,Bajwa said, was given the impression that all MLAs named in the press note had been contacted by the party office and only after their consent was received their names were added. If later some of them decided to give a different statement to the media,it is up to them.”
