Tipplers across the city will soon get the pleasure of feasting on the spirited stuff accompanied by some fiery prison products.
Snacks made at Tihar Prisons may soon find their way to liquor stores in Delhi.
As part of efforts to make products of brand TJ popular,Tihar authorities are trying to tie up with Delhi Government’s excise department.
At present the Tihar Prisons has six units which manufacture bakery products, mustard oil, handloom products, apparels, wooden products and stationary products.
As against the annual turnover of Rs 6.65 crores in 2009,the jail factory had a annual turnover of Rs 10 crores last year.
“We are expecting a turnover of Rs 15 crore this year. To attain this we need to reach to a large customer base. That is why we are tying up with the Delhi government’s excise department. The retail liquor trade owners whom the department has granted licenses will be asked to exhibit our products in their shops,” Neeraj Kumar,DG,Tihar Prisons said.
“People who buy liquor unusually purchase some snacks to consume with it. Once the TJ brand products are exhibited in the liquor shops, they won’t have to hop to other shops,” he said.
All products manufactured in the factory and jails are sold through outlets located in different corners of the city.
Kumar said,”The food items are of good quality and are so much in demand that almost all the stalls present in the city have their stuff sold out by mid-day.
“Cleanliness and ensuring that there is no adulteration is a priority while manufacturing these goods.
The more the products sell, the more it benefits the inmates.”
