Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday rubbished the charge of state Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa that there was widespread rigging in the May 19 zila parishad and block samiti polls. Winning of 639 Congress and other non-Akali candidates in these elections, besides a majority by Opposition in Talwara block samiti, reflects the total fairness and transparency in the most elaborate election exercise conducted in the rural heartland of Punjab, Sukhbir said. Thanking the people for reposing faith in SAD-BJP government,Sukhbir added: SAD remains with the electorate through thick and thin, understands their pulse and evolves its programmes and policies according to the need of the masses. The Congress on the other hand,is a party of aliens, headed by aliens and perhaps working for aliens. Out of 331 zila parishad seats, the Congress and others have won on 32,while in block samiti polls, out of the total 2,731 seats,Congress and others have won 607. Do these 639 candidates of Bajwa brigade won by rigging the elections? he asked. Sukhbir added: The polls reflected the hard reality that during the tenure of Partap Singh Bajwa, the seat share of Congress, which was 40 per cent in the Vidhan Sabha polls, has come down to its half 20.8 per cent. These cold statistical figures are showing a mirror to the Congress leadership that within one year, your rural mass base has become half and in the Lok Sabha elections,it is all set to touch zero. Describing the zila parishad and block samiti polls as trailer for 2014 Lok Sabha elections,Sukhbir claimed that Congress was set to be consigned to history by the voters of India in general and Punjab in particular,as they are itching to teach a lesson to the most corrupt party in the world.
