Ex-servicemen community from across the country has been sitting on hunger strikes at 60 locations demanding OROP.
About 20 retired officers of 16 Sikh Regiment joined the protest regarding One Rank One Pension (OROP) at Jantar Mantar Sunday. The retired officers, who came from Chandigarh, Jammu, Varanasi and other places, demanded that OROP be implemented as soon as possible.
Col (retd) VJS Gill, a veteran of the unit, said, “Officers of the regiment felt that we should support this noble cause. This is not a favour on the retired community. Instead the government owes the retired community its dues for serving the nation.”

Ex-servicemen community from across the country has been sitting on hunger strikes at 60 locations demanding OROP. The government has, however, not come out with any concrete announcement even 35 days after the protest began.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had recently said the scheme was in final stages of drafting and would be implemented soon. The ex-servicemen community has threatened to intensify the protest ahead of the Bihar polls later this year.
