Days after the wife of BJP MP from Amritsar,Navjot Singh Sidhu, said the former cricketer was not likely to seek a party ticket in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, state BJP president Kamal Sharma claimed on Monday that the three-time MP was not angry with the party but was busy with his television shows and ongoing cricket tournaments.
He is not at all angry with the party. He had skipped the recent state executive meeting in Amritsar due to his engagements, otherwise, there is no other issue, Sharma said on his visit to the city.
On July 9,Chief Parliamentary Secretary Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu had told The Indian Express: He feels he does not have the moral right to seek a ticket and contest elections. He is totally disillusioned. He tried his best to do whatever he could for Amritsar but could not achieve much because no funds were available.
Asked about Kaurs remarks,Sharma said: All issues with Dr Navjot has been sorted out. Now,nothing is wrong anywhere. We will contest from Amritsar,Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur as stated earlier. I stand by my statement that Sidhu is the strongest candidate for Amritsar Lok Sabha seat.
While speaking about BJPs mass recruitment drive for Bhartiya Yuva Morcha,Sharma said: The drive will start across India on July 25. A total of 1 crore members have to be recruited. In Punjab alone, the target is to recruit 5 lakh workers. We will focus on our election campaign through our Yuva Morcha this time as the youth is disillusioned with the nine-and-a-half-years of UPA government at the Centre.
Asked about the state being short of power and power cuts being imposed, the BJP chief said: Nothing can be done overnight. Our thermal projects are going on at full pace. The UPA government had promised a power surplus country within six months of their tenure, but nothing has happened till date.
