The Union Government has reportedly approved a Rs 1083 crore revival plan for the ailing public sector unit,Hindustan Machine Tools plant at Pinjore near here. The unit was engaged in the manufacture of a huge range of tractors. It is learnt that Haryana Chief Minister,Bhupinder Singh Hooda played a key role in getting revival plan okayed from the Central Government. Employees of Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) Limited,today called on the Haryana Chief Minister to thank him for the efforts made by him to get a Rs 1083 crore plan sanctioned by the Central Government to rejuvenate this public sector undertaking. A delegation of the employees of the HMT led by spokesperson of Panchkula district unit of the Congress,Ms Manvir Kaur Gill called on Hooda at his residence here today to express their gratitude to him. The employees said that they had a long standing demand for a package to rejuvenate HMT,Pinjore. Thousands of workers and executives of the Pinjore unit of public sector Hindustan Machine Tools had sought Haryana Governments intervention as the unit,located midway between Chandigarh and Kalka faced a severe financial crisis. A few employees had left the organization during this period while many kept waiting for the package for its revival. At one point,HMT Pinjore was considered a jewel of Haryana and was in huge profit till year 2000. However,after year 2000,it lost to competitors in private sector. With this many small-scale ancillary units in Panchkula,Chandigarh and Mohali in Punjab were affected. It is learnt that the Union Government has given its nod to the revival plan including developing technological capabilities for achieving statutory Bharat TREM-IV emission norms.
