Rajasthan IAS officer B B Mohanty, who has been accused of rape by a 23-year-old IAS aspirant, Wednesday failed to appear before the investigating officer (IO) in the case. Mohanty’s wife, Meeta, wrote to the IO saying he was ill.

Jaipur Police Commissioner Sriniwas Janga Rao said, “We have received a letter from Mohanty’s wife citing his ill-health. She has sought one week’s time within which he has committed to appear before the investigating officer.”

A lookout notice has also been issued by the Jaipur Police to the airport authority to ensure Mohanty does not leave the country. The state government late Tuesday night suspended the additional chief secretary rank bureaucrat from the post of chairman, Rajasthan Civil Services Appellate Tribunal.

Mohanty had been summoned by the Jaipur Police for interrogation following verification of the IAS aspirant’s statement. Police sources said the woman’s description of Mohanty’s apartment in Swez Farm and Eden Garden farmhouse matched the scene of the alleged crime and the police had found adequate evidence to prove Mohanty was intimately involved with her.

The IAS aspirant from Uttar Pradesh alleged repeated rape since February 19, 2013. She said Mohanty had promised to help her clear the civil services and also marry her. According to the FIR, Mohanty refused to marry her in December and instead offered to get her married to his younger son.
