Aziz Qureshi, who has been moved out of Uttarakhand and appointed as the next Governor of Mizoram, will arrive in Aizawl after a two-week break to take charge, Raj Bhavan officials told The Indian Express on Wednesday. He is the sixth Governor of Mizoram in as many months. Qureshi, who had earlier approached the Supreme Court against the NDA government’s move to remove him from the post of Governor of Uttarakhand, Tuesday said that he had no issues in moving to Mizoram and would serve the state for the remaining two years of his tenure.
Officials said it has given them hope that Qureshi might buck the trend of Governors quitting almost immediately after being transferred to Mizoram or, in the case of Kamla Beniwal, who was sacked by the Modi government soon after she took charge in Aizawl.
