Police on high alert during Diwali in Jammu

Police has intensified frisking and checking of vehicles at various checkpoints amidst night patrolling.

Police has been put on high alert to foil any designs of anti-social elements during Diwali celebrations in Jammu city,a senior police official said.

“Everybody (police) is on alert,” additional director general of police (ADGP),S P Vaid said about the police’s preparedness to avert any untoward incident in the city.

All the police stations have been put on high alert and station house officers (SHOs) have been asked to ensure round the clock patrolling and vigilance in the city.

Checkpoints at entry to and exit from the city have been set up,and checking intensified,they said.

Vaid said everybody should remain alert,not just the cops.

“Every citizen should be alert to keep vigilance over unidentified and suspected persons,and inform the police in case of any suspected persons,” he said.

Calling for high vigilance along railway line in Jammu,the ADGP said,”At some places,railway line is just 5 to 6 kms from IB. They should be alert.”

The officer said that there were problems facing the forces in the area including difficulty of accommodation,facilities for the security personnel.

“We have taken up the issue with Union Home Secretary,” he said,adding that they were planning to set up infrastructure similar to the Punjab-type security in the area.
