Narendra Modi on Wednesday chose his blog to establish a dialogue with the people of Varanasi for the first time after being declared candidate from the city of temples.
The prime ministerial candidate addressed a rally in Varanasi on December 20, 2013. Through his Facebook message on March 29, he urged the people of Varanasi to help him in his ‘Mission 272’.
Invoking the Ganga and Neelkanth (Lord Shiva) on the blog Wednesday, Modi exhorted the people to vote for “change from despondency” and underlined the need to create a new brand for Varanasi by reviving its glory and heritage.
Modi reminded people that at the end of 20th century, the whole world was saying that 21st century belonged to India. He wrote, under NDA regime the prophecy appeared to be correct. But in 10 years of UPA rule, the country has been pushed back by several decades and the “dream of 21st century was left mid-way”.
Modi said he wanted Varanasi to become the baudhik rajdhani (intellectual capital).
Confident that the party’s social media campaign managers would waste no time in propagating the messages in the blog, district BJP chief Azad Singh Chauhan said they would circulate Modi’s message through pamphlets.
Invoking the Ganga several times, Modi wrote: “Waise bhi Varanasi hi ek aisee jagah hai, jahan Ganga uttar vahini hai. Shaktishali Ganga ki dhara bhi yahaan aa kar apni disha badal jaati hai. Isliye ab Varanasi se hi bade parivartan ki shuruat hogi (Varanasi is the only city where even the powerful Ganga changes course. Therefore, the big change should also begin from Varanasi only.)”
Invokinge Neelkanth, the BJP leader wrote: “Yeh Shiv ki nagri hai; Shiv jo sansaar ko buraiyon se bachane ke liye khud vish peekar neelkanth kehlaate hain. Aaj poore desh ki nigaahen Varanasi par tiki hain.(This is the city of Shiva, who drank poison to protect the world. Today all eyes are on Varanasi).”
