Buoyed over the landslide victory registered by Shiromani Akal Dal in his Majitha assembly constituency,Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia Tuesday asked state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa to demand President’s rule at Centre and not in Punjab.

“People of Punjab have laid the foundation for SAD-BJP to win the next (Lok Sabha 2014) polls,” Majithia said.

“Just as Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) polls outcome (in 2011) had its effect on 2012 Assembly polls, the results of rural polls would also have a cascading effect in 2014 Lok Sabha polls,” Majithia said.

He said all the 29 block samiti seats (four unopposed),and four zila parishad seats (two unopposed) have been comprehensively won by SAD in Majitha. Talking to reporters,Majithia said it was the twelfth straight defeat of Congress in various elections after the 2007 Assembly polls in Punjab. He said the mandate against Congress in rural polls was due to UPA government’s “anti-people policies” and “discrimination towards Punjab”. “It is also because none of the Congress leaders from Punjab raised their voice for the state,” he added.

The way UPA government was functioning,Majithia said,PCC Chief Bajwa should demand President’s rule at Centre and not for Punjab.

Majithia said that with Akalis emerging clear winners,he can “challenge” that Bajwa will not contest parliamentary polls from Gurdaspur.

He said that Congress while anticipating defeat had made many contestants file papers for the polls in wrongful manner. “But,we ensured that candidates were called and corrections made. The Congress also tried to vitiate the atmosphere by indulging in violence in Lambi,” the minister alleged.
