Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today directed top officials to take immediate measures to check the menace.
Addressing a high-level meeting with the officials,Kumar said the state government had received a number of complaints of corruption during implementation of schemes including the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (NREGS).
We should take all possible steps to check corruption and ensure that the benefits of the schemes percolate down to the lower level, he said.
Chief secretary Anoop Mukherjee,Director General of Police Anand Shankar,Principal Secretary to Chief Minister R C P Singh,besides commissioners of all the divisions and district magistrates and principal secretaries to most of the departments in Bihar attended the meeting.
Kumar directed the district magistrates to stay in tents in villages to listen to the grievances of the people and take immediate steps to address them,Mukherjee told reporters after the meeting.
He said the cases which were pending in various courts in Bihar and New Delhi were also discussed. The chief minister has asked the officials to give top priority in complying with court orders. Mukherjee said the chief minister also stressed the need for speedy disposal of cases related to mutations and land disputes.
Special thrust was laid by the chief minister on implementation of schemes for below poverty line households,Mahadalits and other oppressed sections of the society,besides the minorities,he said.
Director General of Police Anand Shankar said the state police was fully prepared to tackle naxalism and the central forces deployed in the state were being properly utilised.
Shankar said the state government was also awaiting a directive from the Centre with respect to tackling the naxal menace in Bihar.
He asked the superintendents of police to stay in villages from time to time which would boost the morale of people affected by a series of criminal incidents in the past.
