West Bengal industry minister Nirupam Sen today called for a political solution to the Singur land issue, but did not elaborate on it.
There has to be a political solution first before we proceed further, Sen said at a CII programme in Kolkata.
Sens comments came a day after Ratan Tata demanded compensation for the investment made by Tata Motors in Singur before releasing the land.
Asked if the state government had discussions with any company on the land in question,Sen did not respond.
Tata had on Tuesday said he would not come in the way if any project was intended to be set up on the acquired land.
He had declined to offer any comment about the proposal of Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee to set up a railway project at Singur.
Before his meeting with the Tata group chairman,Sen had said the state government would reach an amicable solution with Tata Motors on the land, where the Nano small car factory was supposed to be set up,but ducked questions on any kind of agreement on compensation.
The Tata Motors shifted its small car project in October 2008 to Sanand in Gujarat in the face of a prolonged, often violent, agitation led by the Trinamool Congress.
