Mock drill conducted at Rajkot airport

Officials of Rajkot airport on Friday conducted a mock drill on the presumed emergency of a plane having crashed.

OFFICIALS of Rajkot airport on Friday conducted a mock drill on the presumed emergency of a plane having crashed.

The security administration at the airport set off alarm at around 9:30 saying a plane had crashed. The airport also flashed the message to fire and emergency services of Rajkot Municipal Corporation on hotline while alerting the Rajkot city police as well.

In response, a team from Gandhigram police station rushed to the airport immediately. A fire tender from Kalavad Road fire station also reached the spot in no time. Top officers of district administration also reached the airport to oversee operation.

However, all the agencies, including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) which provide security at the airport, were later told by the airport officials that the exercise was a mock-drill.

“At the end of the exercise, airport officers and security officials briefed participating agencies what aspects were covered well and where there was need for improvement,” in-charge police inspector of Gandhigram, Mangabhai Tadvi said.

Airport officials could not be reached for comment.
