Taking serious note of Punjab Congress spokesman Sukhpal Singh Khaira making public a letter written by National Commission for Minorities member Ajaib Singh to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,the SAD on Wednesday claimed the constitutional body and the Congress was colluding to defame its opponents.
A report by the National Commission for Minorities had stated that the Narendra Modi government has prima facie discriminated against the 500-member Sikh community in Kutch region of Gujarat. It had ordered the Sikhs to sell their land and return to Punjab,as they were not Gujaratis,citing the Bombay Tenancy and Agricultural Lands Act-1948. Ajaib Singh has written to Badal to take up the issue with his Gujarati counterpart.
In a statement,SAD Spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said: It is ironical to see that an official letter of the member of a constitutional body is being released by the Congress to substantiate its political viewpoint. The the way the letter has been released along with a Congress press note has proved that the member is working as a member of the minority cell of the Congress,instead of a member of the National Commission for Minorities.
Expressing serious concern over the misuse of the constitutional bodies by the Congress for its political gains,Cheema said: It was surprising to see that the honourable member has visited Gujarat a year after the incident. By this time,the Gujarat High Court had already set aside the decision of the department and the matter is now pending in the Supreme Court.
He added: One fails to understand that instead of writing to the Gujarat government or to the Centre,the member is writing a letter to the Punjab chief minister,who has no jurisdiction over the place of occurrence…
